The Bethel Regional High School varsity basketball squads wrapped up their seasons in Anchorage Saturday morning. Both teams played in the fourth place game, which serves as the State Tournament’s consolation championship.

The Lady Warriors took the floor in the gym at Service High School in Anchorage for an 8:00 a.m. tip-off against Grace Christian.

The Lady Warriors struggled offensively for the entire game but remained within striking distance of Grace Christian due to the Grizzly’s own offensive woes. At the end of the first half, the Lady Warriors had only put five points on the board and shot exactly 10-percent from the floor but were still only eight points behind. The Lady Warriors trailed by 10 points at the end of the third quarter but were unable to close the gap on Grace Christian in the fourth quarter, losing 29-19.

Matched up against the Bulldogs of Nikiski and knowing that it was on them to bring hardware back to the Y-K Delta, the boys got off to a hot start. But Nikiski hung with Bethel in a fast-paced first quarter that ended 20-15. Both teams would cool off slightly in the second quarter as the pace slowed and tournament-weary legs became noticeable.

Bethel retained their lead and took a 28-25 advantage into the locker room at the half. The Warriors held Nikiski to just two points in the third quarter and nine points for the entire second half. Bethel won the fourth place contest by a final score of 58-34.
