Over half the K300 mushers have passed through the Aniak checkpoint, passing the race’s halfway point. According to the K300 live gps tracking, Brent Sass is leading the competition in first position, followed 14 miles behind by last year’s champion Pete Kaiser. Read more →

The Kuskokwim 300 is a nearly 300-mile race that takes place on the icy Kuskokwim River every year.

“We’re still sort of in the grieving process of that,” Sass said. “As everyone knows my start dog, and arguably my best dog died a couple of days ago. That’s been a big blow–Basin–missing him, and I don’t really know how me or my team will react to that.”

25 mushers are set to race from Bethel to Aniak and back in the 36th running of the Kuskokwim 300. After a couple winter warmups, and little snow, this year’s trail follows the truck road on the river almost exclusively to Aniak and back, cutting out the loop near Whitefish Lake.
