Kipnuk couple’s death investigated

by Angela Denning-Barnes on December 19, 2011

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of two adults found deceased in Kipnuk Saturday night. Dead are Gina Martin, age 26, of Kipnuk and Jonathon Paul, age 29, of Kipnuk.

Alaska State Troopers started the investigation and say that at about midnight Saturday the Village Police Officer in Kipnuk was called to a home by family members of the deceased. They had gone to do a welfare check on their relatives and found the couple dead in the home. Health aides were called to the residence and pronounced Martin and Paul dead. The couple’s infant was found alive in the home.

Troopers have been in the village investigating since Sunday. They have not said what a possible cause of death could be.

Investigators with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation arrived in the village this afternoon, on Monday, after waiting for weather to lift. They will be taking over the investigation.

The infant is now with relatives.
