Final meetings to collect public comment on the proposed Donlin Gold mine draft environmental impact statement have been postponed. Airborne ash from the weekend’s Aleutian volcanic eruption canceled flights to Aniak today, grounding the teams conducting the meetings in Anchorage.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the lead federal agency on the project, and AECOM, the environmental and engineering firm contracted to write the draft EIS, planned to present the document in Chuathbaluk, Holy Cross, and Lower Kalskag this week. The groups will reschedule the meetings for early April.

These meetings will conclude a series of public comment sessions the Army Corps and AECOM have conducted on the draft EIS throughout the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta since January.
