Troopers in Aniak reported on Thursday that while visiting Aniak on August 11th they investigated a Shageluk man for firing a rifle inside a home in Shagaluk. The investigation revealed alcohol was involved, according to an online dispatch. Read more →

Bethel Winter House was recently awarded a 29-thousand dollar grant from the state.

The money comes through the Community Initiative Matching Grant Program, during a time of unprecedented statewide budget cuts. This is the second year in a row the shelter has received a grant from the state. Read more →

The Alaska Board of Game adopted an emergency regulation last week, allowing hunters in Unit 18 to possess and harvest more white-fronted geese.

Hunters in the YK Delta coastal area can now harvest 10 white-fronts or “yellow-leggers” daily, and have up to 30 in possession. The recent regulations are up from a daily bag limit of 8 birds, and 24 in possession.

A Bethel man is facing a misdemeanor charge for alleged waste of salmon.

According to court documents, authorities say 60-year-old Roger Thon threw 25 salmon into a Bethel dumpster on August 19th. Read more →

A grand jury has indicted a Napakiak man on eight felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor and sexual assault. 32-year-old Chuck Ayagalria was arrested August 23rd following the issue of a warrant. Read more →

A Bethel man is charged with the sexual assault of an incapacitated person. According to a police affidavit, a witness on August 22nd saw two people who appeared to be fighting in the park near the Lion’s Club.

Four kids broke into the Bethel community Garden Thursday evening. They stole tools and wrecked vegetables that were reaching their peak after the growing season. Leif Albertson, the coordinator for the community garden, inspected the damage this morning.

“Somebody’s definitely been in here. Some plants are ripped out, zucchini are destroyed and spread around, carrots are lying in the aisle that have been destroyed, and there are some plants that have knocked over,” said Albertson.

Today’s caller-driven radio program garnered several different topics of conversation. One caller brought attention to the fact that they feel judged and discriminated by medical professionals, and another caller corroborated that sentiment.

Several of the upcoming events associated with the Bethel Community Fair were discussed by a number of participants. Marijuana legality and it’s affects on the community was talked about, and a few callers had opinions on hunting on native-owned lands on the Gweek River.

A plethora of other topics were also sprinkled into the conversation. One of which was a reoccurring reference to chem-trails, and whether people should be concerning themselves with what some deem as conspiracy theory and others a viable threat.
